Northern Water Thrush
Northern Water Thrush, 2.5″ wide by 3.75″ high
I had a really special moment with a small group of these birds. Walking through mixed forest and along a shallow river in Western Maine. I heard these birds before I saw them, they were calling to each other as they hopped from branch to branch, moving through the woods and never stopping for long. I felt really lucky to get a good photo.
The dense dark forest in the image represents that moment accurately, I considered cropping more to highlight the bird but felt it needed the context. This Northern Water Thrush belongs to environment it lives in, so the habitat felt like it needed to be there too. I only wish you all could hear the sound of the river as well, it was just off to the right as I photographed this bird.
